Renault modernizó a fondo la Fábrica Santa Isabel e instaló más de 60 robots nuevos para fabricar la pickup monocasco con la que apunta a toda Latinoamérica.
- Es el modelo número 35 en la historia de la planta cordobesa y se exportará a 19 países en esta primera etapa, tras una importante inversión de 350 millones de euros (unos 400 millones de dólares).
- Aún no hay confirmación oficial para Panamá, pero con la Oroch como antecedente en la oferta local todo apunta a que la Niagara también llegará.

Tras su debut mundial el pasado 10 de septiembre (ver nota), la Renault Niagara ya se fabrica en serie en la Fábrica Santa Isabel, en Córdoba, Argentina. Es la sucesora de la Oroch y nació como un proyecto pensado para LATAM, con más de cinco años de trabajo entre diseño, ingeniería, manufactura, calidad, logística y desarrollo de proveedores.
Renault Niagara: una planta que se reinventó para recibirla
Para producirla Renault gestionó 278 proyectos que van desde obras de infraestructura y mantenimiento hasta mejoras en los procesos productivos. También incorporó más de 60 robots para la producción de carrocerías, junto con tecnologías que mejoran la precisión y la eficiencia de la línea. La planta suma más de siete décadas de historia y más de 3,5 millones de vehículos fabricados.

La noticia pesa más allá de la marca. La industria automotriz argentina atraviesa una apertura que le suma competencia de productos fabricados fuera del país, y los modelos chinos son parte de esa pelea. En ese escenario, que una pickup de esta categoría se produzca localmente es un golpe de confianza para el sector y para Córdoba.
La Renault Niagara es la única pickup de este tipo fabricada en Argentina, y más de la mitad de su producción estará destinada a los mercados de exportación.
Renault Niagara: esto es lo que trae
La Niagara se apoya en la plataforma RGMP y por ahora tiene un solo motor confirmado: el 1.3L turbo GDi, que entrega 156 hp en la versión FWD y 160 hp en la AWD, con un torque de 199 lb-pie (270 Nm). Se combina con una caja manual de seis velocidades en la FWD o con la automática EDC en la AWD, y más adelante llegará una versión híbrida. Mide 4,940 mm de largo, con una caja de carga de 938 litros que soporta 654 kg.

Dentro de las pickups monocasco competirá con la Chevrolet Montana, la Fiat Toro, la Ford Maverick y la Ram Rampage. Más adelante se sumarán la VW Tukan y la Toyota Corolla Cross Pick-up.

La Renault Oroch formó parte del lineup oficial de la marca para Panamá en el pasado, por lo que es sensato pensar que también veremos a su relevo —no obstante, esto todavía no ha sido confirmado. Como siempre estaremos pendientes.
